Girls did a ‘Chak De’ we did a ‘Chuck De’

Date:

Hey! India won! India won the final!

Before you get all jumpy and begin to switch tabs to check another site, maybe, I assure you that India won. India DID win the final.

Ok, fine, you checked. Ok fine, now you’re fuming that I lied to you. But hey, India won.

Now maybe you’re wondering whether this is an old story, maybe written around the time India did manage to win the World Cup. For your benefit, this isn’t an old story. It’s new, updated. And yes, India won. And no, I’m not mad. I’m not lying.

The moment I said India won, your mind flew to the lush green cricketing fields, to the 22-yard, to the bat and the ball, 11 men clad in their blues, waving to emphatic crowds going berserk, didn’t it? Caught you!

India won, but sadly, or not so sadly, not in the cricket World Cup. India won the World Hockey League against Poland and they are one step closer to qualifying for the Olympics. The women, I mean. Yay!! Excited? Not quite, I see.

You know, this match happened in India, and at one point, it seemed that the Polish fans would outnumber the Indians. The Indians beat the Polish team hands down, 3-1, to be precise. For the Indians, Vandana Katariya (15th minute), Rani Rampal (44th) and skipper Ritu Rani (59th) were the show stealers.

This win propelled the Indians to qualify for HWL Round 3. Now, if they finish within the top six in Round 3, they will qualify for the Rio Olympic Games 2016.

Even though it was a historic moment for us Indians, none of us were even bothered. Let alone being bothered, we weren’t even aware. The tickets were priced at a measly 20 bucks, but even that didn’t lure the crowd.

Some of us might have preferred watching a dead rubber in the ICC Cricket World Cup, instead of cheering the Indian women.

The crowd blames it on the organisers, the organisers say what else other than cheap tickets and IPL-like experience can we do? Well, the blame game will go on and on and on.

As of now, India won. And I say that with an exclamation mark and a big grin on my face.
