Srinagar: A fierce gunbattle is currently underway between security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
The encounter, which began at around 7:30 am on Thursday morning at Hardushoora village in Tangmarg town, started after the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, in a joint operation, cordoned off the area following inputs on presence of at least two militants.
A jawan of the J&K police’s Special Operations Group has been killed in the encounter while two soldiers of the Indian Army have also been injured, one of them critically.
A civilian is also reported to have sustained critical injuries in the exchange of firing between security forces and militants.
The militants started firing after the security forces cordoned off the village and closed in on the house where they were believed to be hiding.
The security forces have sealed all exit points of the village to ensure the militants don’t manage to flee.
