Jaitley defends refurbished Land Bill

Date:

Bengaluru: BJP on Saturday strongly defended the amendments it made into the land bill and accused the opposition of disseminating disinformation campaign on the provisions of the bill.

On the second day of the two-day national executive, BJP discussed its political resolution which included among other things party’s commitment to go ahead with the land bill.

Talking to reporters, senior BJP leader and finance minister Arun Jaitley said, “2013 land bill was an anti-farmer bill. It prevents irrigation, it prevents rural roads and it prevents rural housing.”

The party is firmly behind the land bill, Jaitley said.

The amendments to the land bill now aim to rectify the wrongs of the last bill, he added.

“The weaknesses in the bill have come to the fore after the 2013 land bill was implemented,” he said defending the changes made by Modi government in the land bill.

Arun Jaitley said the present government-led by Narendra Modi has made nine amendments to the proposed Land Acquisition Bill for the benefit of farmers.

“The land bill will help rural India through industriual corridors. Industrialisation in rural India will provide jobs to the poor,” Jaitley added further.

Jaitley said Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants party’s programmes to focus on poor and gave several examples on how he was trying to take the government in that direction.

“The PM gave examples of how coal blocks were given free to the wealthy and today the wealthy were being made to pay and the money is going to tribal states,” Jaitley said.

Meanwhile, Jaitley further said that co-ordination between the party and the government has never been a problem, at least not in the last 10 months.
