Gurgaon: Following the initiatives of the Deputy Commissioner TL Satyaprakash. A team of Gurgaon District Administration on Friday got a  big shot in the arm when it succeeded in nabbing the owner of Diagnostic Center, in Gurgaon red handed while doing sex determination test on the fetus.
The Center has been sealed and the accused Radiologist Dr. Rajiv Bhatia was taken into custody. An FIR under Sections 3, 4, 5, 6 and Rule 9 of PC & PNDT Act has been registered against accused in city Police Station.
Considering the skewed sex ratio of Haryana, the Deputy Commissioner T L Satyaprakash constituted a team for raiding the Ultrasound Centers in the millennium city, consisting of Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr Saryu Sharma, Secretary of District Red Cross Society Shyam Sunder Sharma, Drug Control Officer Amandeep Chauhan and Social Worker Nisha Yadav. The team has been conducting raids in various Ultrasound Centers and checked their records.
The Deputy Commissioner was informed about the filthy act and under his guidance, a plan was laid to catch the culprit red handed. Accordingly, the team motivated a pregnant woman who went to accuse and requested for sex determination test of the fetus. The accused radiologist allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 for conducting the test.
According to G L Singhal, Project Coordinator with ‘Beti Bachao- Beti Padhao’ project in CM Cell Chandigarh, “the offence is punishable under Section 23 of PC&PNDT Act.†Singhal claimed that the accused was convicted earlierin 2001 by the lower court of Gurgaon, against which an appeal was pending in the Punjab & Haryana High Court Chandigarh. This is the second time that he has been caught, for which he can be sentenced for a period of at least 5 years.
The Gurgaon administration managed to burst two of such rackets in a week. Earlier this week, a Doctor of city’s Rama Hospital, was caught for the similar offence on June 8th.
