Political storm disrupts both the Houses

Date:

New Delhi: Both the houses of Parliament – Rajya Sabha and Lok sabha – were adjouned on Thursday after repeated disruption by the opposition. Deadlock continued in the Parliament for the third consecutive day as well, with the Opposition remaining adamant on demand for resignations of Sushma Swaraj, Vasundhara Raje and Shivraj Chouhan.

Congress leader Anand Sharma said they will not let Rajya Sabha function at any cost.

BJP’s Prakash Javdekar said, “The Congress politics is anti-development. They did not allow development as they do not want to let the house function.”

The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day as the united opposition cornered the government for not initiating action against the tainted ministers.

Several opposition members including Mallikarjun Kharge had given adjournment notices for suspending the Question Hour. Speaker Sumitra Majahan rejected the notices.

BJP chief whip Arjun Ram Meghwal wanted to move a privilege motion against Congress chief Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law, Robert Vadra. “Action must be taken against Vadra,” he asid.

Meghwal’s remarks intensified opposition protest which led to the adjournment of Lok Sabha.

Robert Vadra allegedly wrote some castigating remarks against Parliamentarians on his facebook page.

Later, the opposition members belonging to Congress, TRS and others trooped into the well of the House. The TRS members were demanding setting up of a separate High Court for the Telangana.

The Congress members shouted slogans on various corruption issues against the government.

This is for the third consecutive day the logjam between opposition and government continued.

On Thursday, Narendra Modi met Opposition leaders Manmohan Singh, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Sitaram Yechury after Rajya Sabha was adjourned.

–RaGa slams PM Narendra Modi–

Rahul Gandhi slammed Modi for his silence on the recent controversies surrounding the BJP-led government.

“Whatever comes to the head. I want to suggest that you (PM Modi) are the PM of India and not PM of BJP. You are answerable to the public. Sushma Swaraj has done a criminal act, how can you keep quiet?” he said.

He said he is happy till Modi is silent. “It helps me till he is quiet. It is better for me and the party but is it fair to those who trusted him and made him the PM of India. PM Modi’s credibility is eroding slowly. Our advice to (Narendra) Modi is to clear the air and respond to public concern.”

–Previos Days–

Meanwhile, the first and second day of the Monsoon Session was a complete washout. Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha have been facing repeated disruptions. The government stand is firm and the Opposition is reiterating its demand for the resignation of three top BJP leaders.

–TDP MPs stage dharna at Parliament–

The Telugu Desam Party has demanded that the Central Government fulfil the assurances given in the AP State Reorganisation Act including granting of the special category status assured to the State post bifurcation.

Telugu Desam Party MPs led by C M Ramesh and J C Diwakar Reddy staged a demonstration at the Gandhi statue on the premises of the Parliament on Thursday in support of their demands.

–MP Assembly adjourned sine die after ruckus over Vyapam scam–

The monsoon session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly was on Wednesday adjourned sine die, nine days ahead of its scheduled date, following ruckus over the high-profile Vyapam scam.

This is for the third consecutive time that the State Assembly session has ended abruptly over the multi-crore Vyapam scam. Before the monsoon session, the Budget and the winter sessions were also adjourned midway following din over the scandal.

As soon as the members assembled in the House for the third day, four BSP members, including two women legislators, sporting blue aprons trooped into the well demanding resignation of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

They were joined by Congress members.
