Swachh Bharat mission head Vijaylakshmi Joshi quits

Date:

New Delhi: Gujarat cadre IAS officer Vijaylakshmi Joshi, head of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat mission has resigned even before the ambitious project completes a year. This comes days after Union Home Secretary L C Goyal’S tenure ended abruptly 17 months before the completion of his two-year tenure.

The 1980-batch officer sought voluntary retirement for personal reasons and it has been accepted by the government.

Joshi was secretary in the panchayati raj ministry when she was shifted to the sanitation ministry weeks ahead of the launch of the Swachh Bharat Mission. She is likely to serve till October-end. Her husband, GP Joshi, a former IAS officer of Gujarat cadre, also took VRS in 2008.
