Rising from the ‘dead’?

Date:

Would you believe, if we tell you that a ‘dead’ man rose from his hospital bed minutes before the forensic doctor was to cut him open for the post mortem?

Yes, this has happened and though it would seem like a plot of some horror sequence, it is actually not. This has happened due to the sheer negligence of the doctor who mistakenly declared him dead.

The doctor at fault displayed an act of audacity and immediately destroyed all the records to botch up his act of negligence. At around 11.15 am on Sunday, the Sion police received a call about a citizen lying unconscious at the ST bus depot at Sulochna Shetty Marg.

They sent out a patrolling team which picked up the unidentified man and rushed him to Sion Hospital also known as Lokmanya Tilak General (LTG) Hospital. According to sources at the hospital, Chief Medical Officer Dr Rohan Rohekar was on duty at the time and he immediately declared the man dead after checking his pulse. Rohekar forced the staffers and the cops to take the body to the morgue without following the statutory procedure that requires dead bodies to be held in the casualty ward for two hours, when there is still a chance of revival.

The doctor might have got away with his crime had the morgue staffers not noticed that the alleged ‘dead’ body was still breathing.

“When we reached the post-mortem centre, we were shocked to learn that the dead person was alive and had been sent for treatment,” said the police officer present at the spot.

The hospital dean tried his best to hush up the case saying that Dr Rohekar had recently joined the hospital and was unaware of the hospital protocols.
