Karnataka, Gujarat lift ban on Maggi

Date:

The ban on Maggi noodles has reportedly been lifted in Gujarat and Karnataka after samples of the popular instant noodles were tested at laboratories and found to be safe.

Some 90 samples of the six variants of Maggi had received clearance by the three labs mandated by the Bombay High Court, subsequent to which the court had lifted the ban on Maggi.

All varieties of Maggi noodles were recalled from markets in June after the food regulator, Food Safety Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), banned the noodles after finding them “unsafe and hazardous” for consumption because of the presence of excess lead.

On Monday morning, the front page of leading newspapers featured a full page advertisement from Nestle India announcing that Maggie will be back soon. The advertisement reassured on the safety of Maggie and also posted results of the major tests conducted on the samples on the website.

Nestle India, bore a loss of around Rs 450 crore, including destroying over 30,000 tonnes of the instant noodles since the ban.
