Found stuns Golden Horn in Breeders’ Cup Turf

Date:

Found came on late to stun Golden Horn in the $3 million Breeders’ Cup Turf at Keeneland in Kentucky on Saturday, spoiling the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe hero’s swansong.

The filly, trained by Aidan O’Brien and ridden by Ryan Moore, won a thrilling stretch duel to end John Gosden-trained Golden Horn’s bid to become the first horse to capture the prestigious Turf after winning the Arc in Paris.

Prior to the race, Gosden voiced concern about how his superstar would handle the loose, sand-based turf course at Keeneland, which is hosting the Breeders’ Cup for the first time.

With Frankie Dettori in the irons, Golden Horn was the first to seize the lead from Shining Copper after the early pace-setter was reeled in by the field.

But Found was perfectly positioned by Moore and once the filly got her nose in front she kept it there to send Golden Horn into retirement on a bittersweet note after a season that included wins in the Epsom Derby and Eclipse Stakes as well as the Arc.

Big Blue Kitten was third.
