Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting after returning from his Africa tour with Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday to discuss intense situation of clashes in Jammu and Kashmir between protesters and security officials following the death of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani
Home minister Rajnath Singh including, Finance minister Arun Jaitley, Foreign minister Sushma Swaraj, Defence minister Manohar Parrikar, NAS Ajit Doval, Foreign secretary S Jaishankar and other officials were present in the meeting with the Prime Minister at 7, RCR.
Home Minister postpones US visit
Meanwhile, HM, Rajnath Singh also postponed his US trip which was scheduled from July 17 to attend the Indo-US Homeland Security Dialogue scheduled for next week.
The home minister will brief Parliament on J&K violence. The monsoon session of Parliament is due to begin on July 18.
Curfew continues for the fourth day
Curfew in the valley continued for the fourth day as the toll in the violent clashes between protesters and security forces climbed to 24.
More than 350 persons including over 115 security force personnel have been injured in the clashes and militant attacks following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Wani as the situation continued to be tense across the Valley.
Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Muneerul Islam said the government will open all ration stores tomorrow if the day passed off peacefully.
“If the situation remains peaceful, we will open all the ration stores tomorrow despite a public holiday,” he said.
Authorities have strengthened the presence of security forces on the ground in vulnerable areas of the city and elsewhere in the Valley to contain the protests, the official said.
Mobile internet services across the valley and train services remained suspended for the fourth day even as mobile telephony was partially restored in the four districts of south Kashmir.
