5 houses washed away as rain-fed Bhagirathi inundates adjacent

banks Kalyani (WB), Aug 17 (PTI) Water from Bhagirathiinundated five houses due to erosion caused by rains at Poradanga under Chakdaha block in Nadia district today. SDO, Kalyani, Swapan Kumar Kundu said, while fivehouses were submerged by the river today, the people of anestimated 100 houses were shifted to safer places. The erosion, which began in the early hours today, ledto washing away of the five houses on the embankments thismorning but there was no casualty, he said. BDO, Chakdah, Nishith Bhaskar Paul said strengtheningthe embankment with 2.5 km borders will take place after therainy season. PTI COR SUSSUS
