Four of family die after tree falls on them due to heavy rains

Korba, Aug 19 (PTI) A woman and her three minorchildren were killed while her husband and their another childsustained injuries after a tree fell on them due to heavyrains in Chhattisgarh’s Sarguja district, police said today. "The incident took place near Jatgaon village onLundra- Dhaurpur road when the victims were heading toJori-Birma village on a motorcycle to celebrate Raksha Bandhanlast evening," Sarguja Additional Superintendent of PoliceRamkrishna Sahu said. The deceased were identified as Sunita Gond (30),Ishwar (12), Neha (3) and Khushi (1), he said. Her husband Nilesh Gond (40) and daughter Chhoti (1),who were injured in the mishap, were admitted to a localhospital of Ambikapur district headquarters, the ASP said. The victims were natives of Batgari village in Lundraregion, located around 350 kms away from the state capital ofRaipur. The family was travelling on a motorcycle to thevillage of Sunita’s parents to celebrate Raksha Bandhan. Whenthey reached near Jatgaon under Lundra police station, a bigtree got uprooted due to heavy rainfall and strong winds andfell on the family, leaving four of them dead on spot, the ASPsaid. After getting information, a police team immediatelyreached the spot and rushed the victims to Lundra governmenthospital where Sunita and her three children were declaredbrought dead, he said.
