IIT, Guwahati Director talks on need to address pressing eco

issues Guwahati, Aug 22 (PTI) There was an imperative need toaddress the growing ecological issues and concerns withemphasis upon energy and water management, Director IIT,Guwahati Prof Gautam Biswas said. "The need of the hour is to focus on improving potablewater availability and waste water disposal," Prof Biswas saidwhile inaugurating the Student’s Chapter of Indian GreenBuilding Council (IGBC) recently. (on Saturday). There was also an urgent need to enhance water supplyinfrastructure and sewerage monitoring, treatment and disposalsystems is an urgent need and this was feasible only whenGreen Infrastructure is targeted in a holistic framework fordeveloping smart cities, he added. IIT Guwahati student’s chapter would work closely withthe young minds in instilling a sense of commitment towardsplanet earth at a very early stage and enable them to play agreater and greener role in building modern India, IGBCGuwahati Chapter Co-Chairman P K Sharma said on the occasion. IGBC aspires that the place one lives, work, study,play and commute should all go the green way and the IGBCstudents’ chapter aims at encouraging young minds, make greenas a way of life and also facilitate them in becoming greenambassadors of the country, he said.
