Swearing in ceremony of the new Governor of Assam Shri Banwarilal Purohit took place at the Durabar Hall in Raj Bhavan in Guwahati on Monday. Veteran politician and a former Member of Parliament was administered oath by The Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, Ajit Singh.
Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Assembly Speaker Ranjit Kumar Das, several cabinet ministers, senior officials and other prominent people were present.
Assam got its fulltime governor after nearly two years. During this time, Nagaland Governor, P B Acharya was holding additional charge.
Mr.Purohit is a trustee and executive member of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, chairman of Nagpur Kendra of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Chairman of Shri Ramdeobaba Smarak Samiti.
