Conrad Sangma demands security for East Garo Hills villages

Shillong, Aug 24 (PTI) Member of Parliament Conrad KSangma today demanded more security cover for several villagesin East Garo Hills after the proscribed Garo NationalLiberation Army (GNLA) militant group unleashed terror andattacked the villagers recently. "I have spoken with the Chief Secretary K S Kropha toensure that security cover is given to a number of villageswhich have come under attack of the GNLA," Conrad said. A number of villagers were also attacked byunderground outfits primarily as they felt the villagers weregiving intelligence inputs to the police, he said. "The state government should ensure that villagersfeel safe and secure and that normalcy returns to the affectedvillages," the president of National People’s Party (NPP)said. One person has died and several others injured in theincident which took place earlier this month in at least threeremote villages, he added. PTI JOPDKB
