New Delhi, Aug 28 (PTI) Ghazal maestros Ustad Ahmed andMohammed Hussain delivered a musical ode in memory of leadingphilanthropist and promoter of Indian literature Sahu RameshChandra Jain here recently. The Ghazal evening "Ek Shaam Ghazal Ke Naam" organised byBharatiya Jnanpith began with a the melodious rendition"Tujhse milne ki justajoo bhi haidil" and drifted over to thetop of the lush instrumentation. The jugalbandi of different musical instruments – tabla,flute, violin, sitar and keyboard during their performance notonly added depth to the Urdu poetry but also soaked theaudience in their romantic harmonies. The ghazal maestros who began their singing career in 1958as classical and thumri artists were honoured by BharatiyaJnanpith with "Kala Anoop Award" for their immensecontribution in preserving Indian cultural heritage and Urdupoetry. "We have always been devoted to our Indian artisticheritage. Every year we honour those artists who are workingto preserve our languages, our art and culture. It’s a legacywhich needs to be preserved and passed on to the futuregenerations," Leela Dhar Mandloi, director Bharatiya Jnanpith,said. Born in Rajasthan as sons of the famous ghazal and thumrisinger Ustad Afzal Hussain, the duo belongs to the JaipurGharana and have released around 80 albums till date. Otherthan Urdu shayari their bhajan compositions are widely heardby the listeners. Famously known as the Hussain brothers the duo is widelypraised for their heartfelt emotions and melodic panache oftheir Ghazals and compositions. Rajasthan Sangeet and UrduAcademy has acknowledged their work in the past with titleslike "Rooh-e-Ghazal" and "Bhajan Samrat".
