12-hr Bandh partially hits life in Jangipur

Baharampore (WB), Aug 29 (PTI) Normal life waspartially affected at Jangipur in Murshidabad district todayin response to a 12-hr bandh call given by the opposition leftand Congress in protest against the alleged police action onprotestors during NH 34 blockade earlier. Official reports said many shops were closed andbanks, schools did not function but vehicles plied. The NH 34 was also open throughout the day and trainmovement in Sealdah-Lalgola-Malda section was normal. One person was killed and at least 13 others,including nine policemen, were injured in a clash after a mobblocked National Highway 34 in Murshidabad demandingrestoration of electricity line to a village. After talks failed, police resorted to lathi charge todisperse the mob and then fired in the air at Jhikri underFarakka police station area, as the villagers pelted stones.
