Accused confess to gangrape and killing of minor

Kolkata, Sep 1 (PTI) The two drivers of an online cabaggregator service accused in rape and murder of a minor girlin the city have confessed to their crime, police here said. The two, who are in their early 20s, have been remandedinto police custody till September 9 for the crime. A Kolkata Police officer said that during investigation itsurfaced that the duo – Guddu Singh and Shankar Shaw – had gotthe car serviced at a garage and went to a red light area atKhidderpore in the port area of the city on Tuesday night. There they had consumed liquor and got embroiled in aquarrel following which they were forced to leave the area. As per the CCTV footage, the duo then drove throughDalhousie Square area of the city at around 3.45 AM to theBrabourne Road flyover twice. Guddu was at the wheels and while driving to DalhousieSquare stopped the vehicle near the Tea Board bus stop,alighted from it and took away the minor girl sleeping on thefootpath inside it. Then he along with Shankar drove through Netaji SubhasRoad, Hastings and took the AJC Bose Road flyover and drovetowards Park Circus flyover, he said. They took turns to rape the minor inside the moving carand then got scared that she might identify them if they lether go. "It was then that Shankar strangulated her to death,"the officer said. After killing the girl they drove to GJ Khan Road inTopsia area and threw the body in a canal, he said. The officer said four bottles of alcohol had beenrecovered from the vehicle which they drove in and turns forthe cab agrregator service. "A forensic examination on the car will also be done aspart of the investigation," he said, adding that sleuths ofthe force were also planning to reconstruct the entireincident and take the help of the two accused.
