Authinathan becomes Additional Judge of Madras High Court

Chennai, Sep 1 (PTI) Principal Sessions Judge of Chennai,N Authinathan, who retired from service on January 19 thisyear, has been elevated to the High Court and appointedAdditional Judge. A notification to this efect from the Union Ministry ofLaw was received by the Madras High Court today.   He had served in several districts including theNilgiris and Coimbatore as District Judge. AuthinathanÂ’s name was pending consideration of theSupreme Court and the Centre for elevation, along with eightother names since 2015. Of them, six names – Justice V Bharathidasan, Justice DKrishnakumar, Justice S S Sundar, Justice M V Muralidharan,Justice P Kalaiyarasan and Justice B Gokuldas were cleared andthey were appointed as judges of High Court. With his appointment, the sitting strength of MadrasHigh Court will go up to 39, as against the sanctionedstrength of 75. Already 17 names, out of 21 people recommended by the highcourt, have cleared initial stages of appointment and areawaiting clearance by the Centre. PTI CORRRC
