Absence from screen not intentional: Kunal Kapoor

By Shubha Dubey New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) Kunal Kapoor may have had onlythree releases in last seven years but the actor says he didnot want visibility at the cost of quality work. The 38-year-old actor, who made his debut with M FHussain’s "Meenaxi" and shot to fame with "Rang De Basanti,"said the feeling of working continuously was always there, buthe did not get good roles. "A desire to be out there working in films was alwaysthere, as that’s what I am supposed to do. It’s a bit of aCatch-22 situation because as an actor you want to keep doinglots of work. "Acting is something I enjoy incredibly, but having saidthat, I had just three releases in last seven years. You wantto be there but again the choice is whether you want to doeverything that comes your way or wait for the scripts thatexcite you. I choose to go with the latter," Kunal told PTI. During his time away from the silver screen, the actortried his hands in theater and writing, which he said kept himoccupied and saved him from frustration. "Luckily, it has been a really productive time. I had achance to do good theatre. I have been writing and had thechance to develop those ideas into scripts. I also co-foundeda successful tech company. I think if I didn’t have all thesethings around me it would have been incredibly frustrating." Kunal believes filmmaking is a director’s medium and theonly thing an actor can do is choose a good director. "An actor doesn’t decide how a film should be. It is adirector’s medium. Actor doesn’t have much control on how thefilm should shape. The only power the actor has is to choosepeople you work with. "I always choose people, who are incredibly passionateabout what they are doing, because I am. For me, that is one ofthe deciding factors apart from my role. I had been on the setswhere I turned up and the film didn’t matter so much to othersthe way it did to me," he said. (MORE) PTI SHDBK
