Meanwhile, Punjab Education Minister Daljit SinghCheema honoured two academicians with ‘Lifetime AchievementAward’, 34 teachers with state award, and 33 teachers,education officers and employees with commendation letters. Sister Mirabell and Swaran Singh were also presented withan amount of Rs one lakh each, a medal, a shawl and acommendation certificate at the state-level function to mark’Teacher’s Day’ which was held at CGC Landran here anddedicated to the 50th anniversary of Punjabi Suba. The state awardees were presented with the increasedamount of Rs 25,000 each which earlier stood at Rs 10,000. The state awardee 34 teachers were also honoured witha medal, shawl and a commendation certificate. These teacherswould also get an extension in service for a period of oneyear. Besides this, another 33 teachers, education officers,employees were awarded a shawl and a commendation certificate. Cheema while addressing the teachers said the ‘LifetimeAchievement’ award has been started for the first time tohonour those who have devoted their entire life spans toserve the cause of education. He also exhorted the teaching community to take pledgefor making Punjab number one in academic sphere. He said after infrastructure, now the target is tomake Punjab topmost state academically.
