New Delhi, Sep 6 (PTI) Union Health Minister J P Naddawill lead a yoga session at the crucial meeting of WHOregional committee of South East Asian region in Colombotomorrow to carry forward the benefits of yoga among variousnations. Nadda, who is presently attending the 69th session of theWHO Regional Committee of South-East Asia Region at Colombo,will be joined by health ministers of several countries. "Union Health Minister J P Nadda will be leading the yogasession at the 69th session of the WHO Regional Committee ofSouth-East Asia Region at Colombo tomorrow. "Carrying forward the vision of Prime Minister NarendraModi, the Minister will join the health ministers of severalcountries tomorrow in the Yoga session. This will carry themessage of the benefits of yoga across various countries," anofficial statement said. While attending the meeting, Nadda has highlighted thevision of the government in the area of universal healthcareand its roadmap for achieving the sustainable developmentgoals. Nadda has highlighted the myriad achievements of theHealth Ministry including Mission Indradhanush, MNTE andYaws-free status of India in the various sessions at the meet. According to reports, this is the first time that such asession is being organised by the UN agency during its annualregional meeting. The UN General Assembly had in 2014 adopted an India-ledresolution, supported by over 175 UN member-states, declaringJune 21 as ‘International Day of Yoga’, recognising that "Yogaprovides a holistic approach to health and well-being" afterPrime Minister Narendra Modi proposed for adoption ofinternational yoga day. The first International Day of Yoga was observed worldover on June 21, 2015. India had set two new Guinness World Records for Yoga with35,985 participants performing asanas at one venue and as manyas 84 nationalities joining in the official observation ofInternational Yoga Day.
