Newspaper hawkers in Lucknow resume work after 11 days

Lucknow, Sep 12 (PTI) Hawkers in the state capital todayresumed distribution of newspapers as the logjam between themand newspaper owners over commission came to an end after 11days. An understanding was reached between newspaper owners andhawkers’ association following several rounds of parleys, arepresentative of Uttar Pradesh Hawkers Association, ManojNigam, said. The commission over which the stalemate was continuinghas been restored and a couple of other demands concerning thehawkers have also been met, Nigam said. The hawkers had gone on strike as their commission waslowered from September 1, he said. The hawkers’ association had also met Principal Secretary,Information, Navneet Sehgal over their demands following whicha deputy director-level officer was appointed to find a wayout.
