All you need to know about the new Toyota Fortuner

Date:

The Fortuner nameplate has been a popular choice among SUV buyers in India in this price segment, but the Japanese offering had started to look dated when compared to other American offerings like the new Ford Endeavour and the Chevrolet Trailblazer. But this time, it’s not just a mid-life facelift that’s been given by Toyota, it is an all-new model.Toyota India has launched the new Fortuner at a base price of Rs 25.92 lakh and goes all the way up to 31.12 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).

At first glance, you will notice just how much the design of the Fortuner has been revamped. The styling is a lot sleeker than before and yet manages to keep the muscular feel, that the previous generation Fortuner was known for. At the front, there are the sharp wraparound projector headlamps which are accentuated by the bold chrome grille. There’s chrome at the fog lamps housings too.

From the sides, the kinked window line along with the large wheel arches give the Fortuner a tall stance and the rear gets sleek LED tail lamps. The boot is electrically operated. The chrome treatment runs throughout the car in the form of a thin strip along the windows and the rear glass panel which is a neat addition.

If we talk about the interiors then the changes include the addition of a large touchscreen infotainment screen and the materials used inside the cabin are soft-touch materials and the seats are wrapped in leather.

The biggest change, though, has to be under the hood. Toyota has launched the Fortuner with two engine options – a 2.8-litre diesel engine and a 2.7-litre petrol engine. Whereas the diesel unit produces 177 horsepower and 360 Nm of torque, the petrol engine delivers 164 horsepower and 245 Nm of torque. Transmission duties will be handled by a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Fortuner already has a good presence in the segment. Now that it is back in an all-new avatar, it will be interesting to see how it fares against the competition.
