The nation today remembered Mahatma Gandhi on his 69th death anniversary with President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the country in paying homage to the Father of the Nation.

Mahatma Gandhi got his degree from London. He was a Lawyer by Profession. He mentions in detail about his experiences there in his autobiography, “My experiments with Truth.”
He became popular in South Africa, where he fought for the rights of the natives.
He joined INC and India’s struggle fr freedom after coming to India in 1914. His return to his motherland is celebrated as the Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas.
He popularised freedom struggle among masses. By taking up charkha.
He organised the Dandi salt march, which rolled over as a big movement for India’s freedom struggle.
He participated in the round table conference organised by Britishers in London to come to a solution for freedom of India.
He was equally popular among masses and the major leaders of the freedom struggle.
He tried his best to get a peaceful negotiation with Britishers on India’s independence. He is seen with the Governor General Lord Mountbatten and his wife in the picture.
He was assassinated while coming out of the prayer halls of Birla temple by Nathuram Godse on January 30, 1948. The nation remembers his journey and his ideas till date. Every City has an MG road. Many schemes like MGNREGA are named after him.
His ideas have still reverberated in the minds and hearts of these who believe in peace and non-violence. His ideas are relevant today as they were decades ago.
