The first woman chief justice of high court dies

Justice (retd) Leila Seth, who was the first woman chief justice of Delhi, Died at the age of 86 on Friday night at her Noida residence due to cardiac arrest.

She was also the first Indian woman to top London Bar exams in the year1958. She practised law in Patna for 10 years before becoming a judge in Delhi high court. She became the first woman judge of Delhi high court and later the first woman chief justice of state (Himachal) high court.

She was also the member of the committee for the Justice Verma Committee which was formed in 2012 after the gruesome Delhi gang rape to provide speedy justice in crimes related to women.
