NHRC issues notice to Jharkhand over abduction of more than 1000 children

Date:

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to Jharkhand on Wednesday, over the reported abductions of around 1000 children in the state in last few years. The most of the children are abducted and made to participate involuntarily in Maoist activities, according to the reports by the NHRC.

It displays the agonizing reality of the insecurity of children in the state and their fundamental rights are completely discounted in such scenario. The abducted children for Maoist cadres are denied basic rights such as education. They are also subjected to brutal punishments and inhumane behavior along several other injustices.

The commission has given 2 weeks time to the government to assess the situation. The panel wants an exact number of children abducted and engaged in Maoism. They also want to know that what actions have been taken by the police against the abductors and also about the rehabilitation of the rescued ones.

Children from Lohardagga, Latehar, Simdega and Gumla and few of the adjoining districts are easy prey for the abductors. There are also instances in some of the villages, where Maoists ask for five children from villages and there is no alternative choice for the villagers than to agree.
