Excessive lashes of cane by exorcist kills 12-year-old girl

Another tragic incident out of blind faith was witnessed in Ratanpur in Karimganj district of Assam when a 12-year-old girl died after she was allegedly lashed repeatedly with a cane by an exorcist to get rid of her so-called possession of evil spirits.

The victim, Asmana Begum was suffering from fever from past few days. Her parents, unfortunately, took her to a local exorcist instead of the hospital.The Exorcist allegedly started lashing her with a cane all over her body. She succumbed to her injury on Sunday.

The girl had complained her parents earlier that she was possessed by an evil spirit. according to the reports.

The complaint was filed by the victim’s father and police arrested the accused. The police are investigating this matter further. While the reports suggest that the caning is the main reason behind her death, police are yet to confirm.
