Only NCERT to publish textbooks for schools from 2018

Starting next academic year, NCERT (National Council of Educational Research in Training) will be the sole agency to publish school textbooks. CBSE‘s role will be restricted to stick to its primary role of affiliation and holding examination.

The decision was taken in a meeting headed by school education secretary Anil Swarup. The meeting consisted of other CBSE secretaries and NCERT director. NCERT has been asked to gear to publish books in larger volume for the next year.

The council, which reviews textbook from classes One to Twelfth has asked for suggestions from teachers and academicians from all over the globe to update and improve the quality of the existing books.

Several NCERT books from 2007 lack accuracy and there is a need to update errors according to a few.

NCERT urges schools to raise demand online to supply books before time. This year in the academic session 2017-18, over 2000 schools have raised demand making a booking close to 5 million.
