Captain Kohli makes history; becomes the fastest to score 8000 ODI runs

Captain of the Indian cricket team, Virat Kohli has become the quickest batsman to 8000 runs in one-day International cricket. He beat Ab de Villiers’ mark in seven fewer innings, crossing it in his 175th innings. He made history during the course of his unbeaten 96 off 78 deliveries against Bangladesh in the ICC Champions Trophy semi-final at Birmingham.

In comparison, Ab de Villiers needed 182 innings to reach the 8000 run-mark in August 2015 beating Saurav Ganguly’s record of 200 innings. Ganguly in 2002, beat Sachin Tendulkar’s mark of 210 innings.South African opener Hashim Amla, who broke Kohli’s record of being the fastest to 7000 runs in ODI’s, getting there in his 150th innings as compared to Kohli’s 166th innings. Amla has been the fastest to 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 and 6000 runs in the past.
