Apple is rumoured to launch three new iPhones with a design similar to that of the iPhone X later this year. According to a report, Apple will announce two OLED iPhones and one LCD model this year. All the three iPhone models will have an edge-to-edge display and Face ID technology with the notch seen on this year’s iPhone X.
However, a new data originating from Apple’s supply chain in China suggests the iPhone maker might be planning two LCD models for 2018. Another report suggests that Apple is planning two LCD models as replacement to existing iPhone 8 models and one larger OLED iPhone. The report adds that Apple is planning two LCD models with a 5.7-inch or 5.8-inch display and another model with a 6-inch or 6.1-inch display.
It claims Apple will drop the 5.8-inch iPhone X and will launch two OLED models with 6-inch and 6.4-inch or 6.5-inch displays. The OLED iPhone is the top attraction of this year’s iPhone lineup and it doesn’t make sense for the company to drop it this year.
The report also notes that Apple will bring wireless charging and ‘3D sensing functionalities’ to the entire 2018 iPhone lineup. It is possible that the 3D sensing functionalities mean the TrueDepth camera system.
It is claimed that Apple will add Face ID and edge-to-edge display design to 6.1-inch LCD model but will drop 3D Touch. Apple will further cut cost by using metal casing as opposed to stainless steel one found on iPhone X. The LCD model is expected to retail at $700 to $800 price range while the iPhone X could be priced at $999. The larger OLED iPhone is rumoured to be called iPhone X Plus and should be the most expensive iPhone yet.
