Blow to US-Pak diplomatic relations as US defence attache mows down 3 in Pak

Date:

The ongoing rift between the US and Pakistan over diplomatic ties is set to hit lower as the United States Defence Attache hit three persons in Pakistan. The incident occurred at a traffic signal in Daman-e-Koh, north of Islamabad where Colonel Joseph Emanuel Hall, Defence and Air attache at the US Embassy, hit three motorcycles with his white Land Cruiser.

One of the three riders is dead while the other two have been taken to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). Both of them are in a very critical condition. US Embassy officials are monitoring the case with Islamabad police.

Owing to diplomatic immunity, Hall was not arrested though his car has been taken into custody. Hall is lucky as previously in 2011 an American intelligence personnel Raymond Davis was arrested on the charges of killing two Pakistani citizens.

This incident may severely affect the visa and diplomatic issues between the two countries. Also, Hall is a military attache so there are chances that consequences of this could be seen in the military relations between the US and Pakistan.

Earlier, the US State department had informed the Pakistan Embassy that restrictions including travelling beyond 50 miles will be imposed on Pakistani diplomats in the US from May 1 if it does not ease the travel of US diplomats.
