Over 100 killed in dust storm in UP and Rajasthan

Date:

More than 100 people lost their lives in the tragic dust storm in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan and many were injured. The incident on Wednesday created a havoc in the households and disrupted the public property. When the storm hit the two places, people were merrily sleeping in their houses when the houses were struck by the fierce lightning.

A significant loss of about 73 people was reported in Uttar Pradesh out of which half were from Agra. Reports have stated that the Taj Mahal minarets were also damaged in the storm and many captive elephants too fell prey to the disaster. Some houses in Agra were made of brick and mortar, so they could not save themselves from the disruption.

In Rajasthan, Alwar, Bharatpur and Dholpur were worst affected by the dust storm leaving approximately 35 people killed. All schools in Rajasthan have been shut until further notice.

The Uttar Pradesh government has officially announced relief for survivors of the families that they would be given Rs. 400,000 as compensation.

The meteorological department of India has predicted more dust storms over the coming days or the coming weekend in other areas as well.
