India ranked at 113 in childhood index out of 175

According to the Save The Children’s End of Childhood Index 2018, India has been ranked at 113 among 175 countries in the world.

There are a number of reasons that account for children missing out on their childhood with early child marriage being one of them. Although the percentage of child marriages has come down to 15.2% from 21.1%

Other reasons that result in threatened childhood include discrimination against girls, malnutrition, poverty, education, child labour, and violence.

More than 500 million girls live in countries where gender bias is a major concern, especially in the Asian countries.

Children in countries like the United States, Russia, and China are also affected by concerns like poverty and external conflicts. According to the index, US and Russia rank 36 and 37 and China gets the 40th position.

Singapore tops the index followed by Slovenia and Niger is ranked the last at 175.
