Gujarat ATS nabs Dawood Ibrahim’s close aide accused in 1993 Mumbai blasts

New Delhi: In an overnight operation, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has made a significant catch. The ATS has arrested underworld gangster’ Dawood Ibrahim’s close aide Ahmed Mohammed Lambu, an accused in the 1993 Mumbai blasts, from Dhariya in the state.

The ATS had received a tip-off about his location during an investigation. He was said to have fled the country after the 1993 blasts but had recently returned, officials said.

Lambu, an aide of D-Company chief Dawood Ibrahim, had a Rs 5 lakh reward on his head and is on the CBI’s most wanted list. He is to be taken to the ATS’ Ahmedabad headquarters, after which further details will be released.

The March 1993 Mumbai blasts were a series of 12 explosions that rocked India’s financial capital, in which 257 persons died, as per official figures, and over 700 suffered injuries. A number of the perpetrators of the blasts, including kingpin Dawood Ibrahim, had fled the country in its aftermath.
