Every individual has unique brain: Research

Date:

According to a study by the researchers of University of Zurich, like every person has a different fingerprint similarly, no two people have the same brain anatomy.

The brain anatomy is unique for all because of the different combinations of genetic factors and individual life experiences.

The researchers studied around 200 brains to reveal that certain anatomical characteristics are unique to the motherboard of an individual.

Dr Lutz Jancke, a professor of Psychology at the University of Zurich led the team of researchers. They scanned the brains of healthy individuals using the technology of magnetic resonance imaging three times over a period of two years.

“We suspected that those experiences having an effect on the brain interact with the genetic make-up so that over the course of years every person develops a completely individual brain anatomy,” explains Jancke.

With their study the team was able to prove that the structure of people’s brain is very unique and individual. “The combination of genetic and non-genetic influences clearly affects not only the functioning of the brain, but also its anatomy.” Jancke said.

The study of Jancke and his team has showed how neuroscience and developed over the years. Only 30 years ago scientists thought that there were a few or absolutely no individual characteristics in a human brain.
