‘India will accompany Uganda in its journey towards development,’ says PM Modi

Entebbe: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Tuesday, held delegation-level talks with President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni and said that India will continue to play a stable partner in the country’s journey towards development.

“We have discussed various topics in the meeting today. I want to assure you that India will stand by Uganda as a stable partner in its journey towards development. I thank you for your warmth and affection. India and Uganda have been sharing a strong relationship since a long time,” the Prime Minister said.

“Also, I want to thank you for taking care of the Indian community in Uganda. Earlier also I came to the country as Chief Minister of Gujarat. Then also I was welcomed with warmth,” he added referring to his visit to Uganda in 2007.

The Prime Minister was accorded a ceremonial reception in Uganda’s Entebbe town. President Museveni was also present at the event.

Besides the delegation level talks, Prime Minister Modi will also be addressing a community event later today. He is on a three-nation tour to the African countries including Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa.

During his visit to Rwanda earlier, India and Rwanda signed eight agreements in an effort to bolster bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

Furthering ties of trade and commerce, Prime Minister Modi and Rwandan President Paul Kagame addressed leading CEOs from India and Rwanda.

Prime Minister Modi also gifted 200 cows to villagers as a part of Rwandan Government’s Girinka Programme.
