It has been seventeen days now that the J-35 killer whale has been carrying the carcass of the dead calf.
Now people are concerned about how this will impact them. The whale was last spotted on Wednesday afternoon with the J-pod of orcas.
The calf was born on July 24 and died a while after the birth and since then the mother whale has been carrying it.
Another orca J-50 has been identified sick with a significant weight loss and it seems like the three-and-a-half-year-old whale also has an infection.
The United States and Canadian government officials have got the approval to conduct a test on the whale by feeding a fish to it prepared for antibiotics. However, the officials are waiting to conduct the test in Canada due to the high winds and poor visibility led by the fog.
According to the scientists, the whale has lost weight due to an infection. The whale is a part of the southern endangered resident from the group of orcas and their population has drastically declined to 76.
