As India sticks to the policy of not accepting foreign aid for Kerala flood relief, it comes across that even foreign ambassadors are not allowed to attend the ceremony in which the companies would be handing over the Kerala relief fund.
The Indian government unofficially conveyed this message to the Thailand ambassador to India Chutinkorn Gongsakdi, who had plans to be a part of the ceremony and hand over the relief fund collected by the Thai companies in India.
Last month, a statement was passed on by the Ministry of External Affairs in India that India will not accept disaster aid from foreign countries due to a political controversy based on the reports that UAE’s offer of Rs 700 crore for Kerala floods had been declined.
In August, Thailand had attempted to extend some relief material for the victims in India, however, the offer was declined by the Central Government. After the decline, the private Thai companies in India came forward to aid the flood victims through funds.
On Friday, a letter was posted by the Thailand ambassador to India to a Thai company in which he asked for cancellation of the proposal to attend the Kerala ceremony.
