Farmers’ protest leads to traffic disruptions in parts of Delhi

The Delhi police on Monday issued opposing orders in certain parts of Delhi including East and North East Delhi, foreseeing challenges in the law and order while a community of about 1000 farmers of the Bharatiya Kisan Union is on a march on Tuesday to reach Delhi from Haridwar.

For East Delhi, the orders have been issued by Pankaj Singh, the Deputy Commissioner of Police under section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code which will be active till October 8. The areas covered under this are Shakarpur, Preet Vihar, Jagatpuri, Ghazipur, Madhu Vihar, Mandawli, Mayur Vihar, Kalyanpuri, Pandav Nagar and New Ashok Nagar.

In North-East Delhi, the orders were issued by Atul Kumar Thakur, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) to be in force till October 4.

There is also a constant interaction and exchange of information between the Delhi Police and Uttar Pradesh to stop the farmers from entering Delhi as no prior permission has been taken from the Delhi Police for the protests. A gathering of more than five people and any public meeting is prohibited along with the usage of loudspeakers, amplifiers, or any such instruments.

The march includes Patanjali (Uttarakhand) to Kisan Ghat in Delhi via Muzaffarnagar, Daurala, Partapur, Modi Nagar/Muradnagar, Hindon Ghat between September 23 to October 2. On October 2, it will pass through Ghaziabad and proceed via Preet Vihar and Geeta Colony Flyover in East Delhi.

To reach Ghaziabad, the commuters have been asked to change the NH24 route and use Ghazipur Chowk, Road No 56 towards ISBT Anand Vihar, Apsara Border, GT Road Mohan Nagar, Shahdara, Dilshad Garden, and Mohan Garden.
