Breaking the stereotype: Mother-in-law donates kidney when mother refused

Date:

Jaisalmer: In a heartwarming incident, a mother-in-law donated her kidney to the daughter-in-law, breaking the stereotype of rivalry between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law.

For last one year, Sonika(32), a resident of Gandhi Nagar in Barmer, has been suffering from kidneys ailment and was living with the support of medication.

After a recent test, the doctor stated that both her kidneys have failed. Continuation of dialysis or a kidney transplant was the only way of her survival, doctors said. And since dialysis is not feasible on a long-term, a kidney transplant was the only option.

When Sonika’s mother Bhanwari Devi refused to donate her kidney, her brother and father were contacted, both of whom also refused to give their kidney. At this point, her mother-in-law, Gani Devi(60), stepped forward and agreed to donate her kidney instead.

The transplant was successfully carried out on September 13th and Sonika is recovering well.
