Sensex, Nifty end over 2% up, led by banking, pharma stocks

The BSE Sensex closed 718.09 points up at 34,067.40, on Monday while the Nifty 50 ended 221.30 points higher at 10,251.30 led by gains in healthcare and banking stocks supported by positive September quarter earnings in the sectors.

The Nifty MidCap rose 3%. All 43 sectoral indices advanced with Nifty PSU Bank leading by rising up to 8%. Nifty Pharma rose 5.2%.

Global markets showed signs of recovery and helped boost sentiment. Oil prices dipped amid cautious sentiment following losses in financial markets last week and a stronger dollar.
