Bulandshahr violence: Opposition targets Yogi Adityanath, even as police arrests suspects

Date:

The Congress on Tuesday targetted the UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, saying that he should take care of his own state before undertaking election campaigning, referring to the death of a policeman and a civilian in a mob violence incident in Bulandshahr on Monday even as the police arrested two people and detained four in connection with violence in Syana area of Bulandshahar district.

“It is a shocking state of affairs how a mob killed a police officer investigating the Akhlaq case. Who gives these people the authority to take law in their hands? Instead of taking care of his state Yogi is going to Telangana,” Congress leader Kapil Sibal told ANI.

Inspector Subodh Kkumar Singh and a civilian Sumit lost their lives in Bulandshahr mob violence related to cow slaughter on Monday. Sub Inspector Suresh Kumar, an eyewitness in the killing of Uttar Pradesh Police Inspector Subodh Kumar on Monday claimed that around 300-500 people attacked the entire police force, according to ANI.

Elaborating upon the series of events that took place on Monday, Kumar added, “The police got information about the incident and reached the spot. After reaching the spot we saw remains of cattle and told people that we will send the same for post-mortem. It was a situation of chaos, our officials noted the statement of people. But all of them were saying different things we tried to make them understand but failed.”

Furthermore, he told ANI that the deceased Inspector was like an elder brother to him and was a nice man.

Singh lost his life on Monday in the clashes that erupted over the presence of illegal animal slaughterhouses in Bulandshahr city and was also the Investigating officer (IO) from 28th Sept 2015 till 9th Nov 2015 of the Akhlaq lynching case.

As per the police, clashes began after locals found cattle carcass in the nearby area.

During the violence that ensued in the region, a local youth, identified as Sumit, was shot and immediately shifted to a hospital in Meerut. However, he succumbed to his injuries.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also expressed grief over the death of Subodh and Sumit.
