BJP gets green signal for ‘rath yatra’ in West Bengal

Date:

The Calcutta high court on Thursday gave a green signal to the three BJP ‘rath yatras’ in West Bengal, dismissing the state government’s claimed that the ‘yatras’ could trigger communal unrest.

Previously, the court had ruled in the favour of the state govt and had denied permission for the rally. Later, the state BJP had appealed again.

Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley congratulated the party after HC ruled in their favour, He also questioned the human right activists and opposition parties on their silence on denial of a right to a political party to organise its’ programme. ” If any NDA/BJP Government had stopped an opposition Programme, it would have been called an “Undeclared Emergency”. Why Silence now?” he tweeted.

The court has directed the state BJP to inform the superintendents of police of the districts, in which the rallies shall enter, at least 12 hours ahead of schedule. The commissioner will ensure conducting ‘yatra’ in a peaceful manner, Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty said.

Jay Prakash Majumdar, state BJP vice-president, in a press briefing, said that the rally is now being proposed for on Saturday, next Monday and Wednesday.

The West Bengal government has now approached Chief Justice’s division bench challenging the single bench order. The matter will be placed before the Chief Justice bench on Friday.
