Lord Hanuman belonged to Vaishya community, says BJP leader

Date:

Uttar Pradesh BJP leader Vineet Agarwal Sharda has said Lord Hanuman belonged to the Vaishya community, weeks after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath termed the Hindu deity a Dalit.

Talking to PTI Thursday, Mr Sharda claimed the Vaishya community and Lord Ram come from the same lineage and Lord Hanuman is the adopted son of Lord Ram.

The row over Lord Hanuman’s caste was sparked after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s comment on Lord Hanuman while campaigning for the assembly polls in Rajasthan last month.

“Bajrang Bali (Hanuman) is such a god that he is a forest-dweller, lives in the mountains. Dalits, deprived, he takes everyone along, from east to west, north to south, and unites them all,” Yogi Adityanath said.

Following Yogi Adityanath’s assertions, BJP MLC Bukkal Nawab claimed that Lord Hanuman was a Muslim.

Earlier, former Indian cricketer Chetan Chauhan had said that Lord Hanuman was a sportsman who is worshipped by many sportspersons even today and his caste should not be discussed.

And just before Chetan Chauhan, Laxmi Narayan, an MLA from the Yogi Adityanath cabinet, has said that Hanuman is a Jat.
