Remembering Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose on his 122nd birth anniversary

Date:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday inaugurated the Subhas Chandra Bose Museum at the Red Fort as a tribute to the great leader on his 122nd birth anniversary.

Narendra Modi will also pay a visit to the Yaad-e-Jallian Museum (the Jallianwala Bagh Museum), the Museum on 1857 (museum on India’s first war of Independence), and Drishyakala (the museum of Indian Art) at the Subhas Chandra Bose Museum, according to a statement released from his office.

Here are some lesser known facts about Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

  • Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose married an Austrian woman named Emilie Schenkl.
  • They had a daughter – Anita Bose Pfaff – who is a German economist.
  • Bose founded the Indian National Army (INA), or the Azad Hind Fauj, in 1942. It’s soldiers included Indian prisoners-of-war and the plantation workers from Singapore, British Malaya, and other parts of South-East Asia.
  • He brilliantly proved his quote – “freedom is not given, it is taken”.
  • Many people still believe that Bose did not die and has been living in disguise even now.
