Kazakh delegation visits India to boost energy ties

In a bid to boost energy ties between Indian and Kazakhstan, a delegation headed by Kazakh Energy Minister Kanat Bozumbayev visited India from 10-12 February 2019.

Kazakh delegation also included Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yermek Kosherbaev, Ambassador of Kazakhstan in India Bulat Sarsenbatev, Deputy CEO, JSC “Kazakh Invest” Rustem Issatayev etc.

During the visit, the delegation participated in the largest conference PETROTECH-2019, which aims to explore areas of growth in petroleum technology, refining, renewable energy.

Minister Kanat Bozumbayev spoke during the session “Collaborating for a sustainable and secure energy access for all, where told about the energy potential of Kazakhstan, modernization of the energy sector conducted in the country, and the crucial importance of interaction between states in the energy sector.”

Kazakh Minister met Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan and discussed potential areas of cooperation in the oil and gas sector, prospects for cooperation between Kazakh and Indian companies in the field of exploration and development on oil and gas fields.

Meanwhile, both Ministers are the Chairmen of their countries in the Indian-Kazakh intergovernmental commission and within the framework of the implementation of the agreements adopted during the 13th IGC meeting in Astana, the parties decided to hold its next meeting in 2019.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yermek Kosherbayev discussed a wide range of issues on bilateral cooperation during a meeting with the Deputy Minister of External Affairs, G. Sarma.

The issues of trade, economic cooperation and investment interactions between the two countries, advantages of integration of transport flows, as well as the economic benefits of using the transit opportunities of Kazakhstan and India were discussed during the meeting with the Special Secretary of the Commerce Department N. Sivasailam.
The parties noted the relevance of the proposal of Kazakh side to create a Consortium that would connect the railway routes Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran to the Chabahar port for the transportation of goods through Central Asian countries to India and beyond.

To intensify cooperation in this area, the parties agreed to speed up the creation of the Special Working Group on Transport and Logistics and hold its first meeting in April 2019 in India.

The opening of new daily flights from Mumbai to Almaty was discussed at a meeting with IndiGo.

Along with this, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan Yermek Kosherbaev and Ambassador Bulat Sarsenbayev met P.Saran, Deputy National Security Advisor of India. The parties agreed to hold the 3rd meeting of the Indo-Kazakh Consultative Dialogue of the Security Councils of both countries in March 2019 at a high level.

Memorandum of Cooperation between JSC “Kazakh Invest” and the largest energy conglomerate of India NTPC Limited was signed during the visit. The document provides interaction of the parties in projects for the construction of solar power plants, as well as the participation of Indian company in projects of operating coal stations in Kazakhstan.
