Chandigarh: Former Superintendent of Police (SP) Salwinder Singh was awarded 10 years imprisonment in connection with a rape and corruption case on Thursday.
Both the cases were registered against him in August 2016.
In 2016, Singh had courted controversy after claiming to be kidnapped by Pakistani terrorists who attacked Pathankot Airbase in January that year. He had alleged to have been abducted by the terrorists at gunpoint and later dumped at an isolated spot but couldn’t prove his claim.

Salwinder, 55, was convicted by the Gurdaspur court on rape charges on February 15. He was also sentenced to five years’ imprisonment in the bribery case under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
Both sentences will run concurrently, according to the court order
He was questioned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) officials over his claims.
