Date:

The rap superstar, Drake has funded an esports startup looking to pit gamers for friendly wagers online with a team of Silicon Valley investors, including Strauss Zelnick, Comcast, Macro Ventures, Canaan, RRE, Courtside and Marissa Mayer.

The startup plans use their funding to expand their library of playable games and their development team.

A per the announcement, the startup has closed $3 million in funding. The company was launched around 5 years ago and got its start as an esports startup looking to organize real-life matches at bars in New York City to play FIFA.

The company has an emphasis on sports titles, like FIFA 19, NBA 2K19 and Madden 19 along with others. Gamers can choose between going one on one or participate in a huge tournament with over 500 participants.

The wagers are friendly and small amounts. The company profits by taking 10 percent of the bets as their fee. The games test people’s skill, not chances, and with gambling regulations, few places still don’t allow the game.
