The Lakers no doubt felt a great deal of urgency to trade for Davis after a hugely disappointing season.
Davis as the latest in a lineage of decorated Lakers power players that began with George Mikan in Minneapolis in the 1950s and has also featured Wilt Chamberlain, Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard in addition to Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Kobe Bryant alongside Shaquille O’Neal.
